Review of You're Next (2013) by Andrew D — 04 Jul 2014
Not a horror comedy or a gory film. The first act is terrible - shaky cam abuse, cliched/fake jump scares, and bad acting. Once a piano wire comes into play, it gets a lot better. The camera settles down. Tropes are averted instead of played straight like in the first half. It becomes an intense home-invasion thriller, although clearly inspired by The Strangers. The third and best act takes a turn into '80s slasher territory with some dark humor thrown in. Also, the sound design/score is really cool.
75/100.
