Review of Your Sister's Sister (2011) by Ian H — 14 Nov 2012
Oh man, Mark Duplass is like THEE guy this year, and one of those just all-around talented guys you hardly ever see. An excellent writer and director (with his bro) but oh my god just such an outstanding actor.
Totally believable at every turn and so much fun to watch! And Emily Blunt who I wrote off as some British Hollywood pretty girl but realized I had no idea who she was and she was great and Rosemarie DeWitt who always seems to be doing great stuff and well, it helps that the story was good and surprising and despite an insanely overlong "feelings" montage toward the end that felt really out of place, this kind of reawakened the Mumblecore dragon that lives inside of my film-school-kid soul and I remember coming being in LA when Franco Leng told me he had just seen the Puffy Chair and it was amazing and that was the first time I ever heard of these Duplasses and how they're ushering in this new wave of filmmaking that's telling seemingly small stories that are great and so affecting because our lives are made of these seemingly small stories and the reliability factor in these mumblers is (on a good day) high.
Also, Mike Birbiglia is in it and Mike Birbiglia kind of makes everything great.
