Your Name, a Japanese animation written and directed by Makoto Shinkai who is known best for another phenomenon feature called 5 Centimeters Per Second. Your Name is about two characters, a boy and a girl, unknown to each other, live in each other's body in most of their days.
Makoto throws the twist in the film very later. The artwork of Makoto improved a lot and watching this movie makes me want to return to visit Japan again. The lighting and colors makes this a bright animated feature and this is possibly the best animation with such colors and realism that Makoto has done in years out of any Japanese animation releases since Miyazaki's Spirited Away.
Does this movie deserve its Oscar performance? Since it's been snubbed once from the 2016 nominees, but after this 2017 US release, it should be a choice. The emotions of this film intertwines very well together.
This is a romance genre that can hold the thoughts of any viewers for days. Compared to 5 Centimeters Per Second, should this be THE masterpiece of Makoto Shinkai? I believe it is.
