Review of Your Highness (2011) by Francisco R — 08 Apr 2012
I was really excited to watch it and honestly, it wasn't so good as I expected, but the thing it, no matter how stupid this movie was, I think I can still consider it because I was able to laugh out loud several times, I had a lot of fun watching it, this movie does know how to entertain and don't forget that this movie has an amazing cast. What more can you ask? Besides, I love what they did with the plot, I know lots of people consider it stupid and dumb, but I get it, I get what they wanted to do with the plot, the theme was "Old Times/Raunchiness", honestly, I was fantasying for a movie like this to come out, I mean it's not hilarious to see kings and princes cursing all the time and talking about sex, I mean that's hilarious and it's registed as one of the other reasons for me to say that I liked Your Highness, but I'm not going to lie that it could have been better. There was stupidity and weird stuff in it, but I think I can consider it a good movie, a fun movie, a hilarious movie and a recommended movie. Trust me, it's not a memorable comedy but it's really worth watching, I'm sure it wasn't just me that liked it, I loved their theme, wich was in my mind for a long time, that's was obviously one of the reasons but the rest was also well achieved, I just don't think I can call it bad, it's really a fun comedy with high doses of flaws but with a higher dose of fun and jokes, I had a great time and I surely recommend it. Good movie.
David Gordon Green directed it, I think he did a good job and even though it wasn't the best movie of his career, I'm sure it's going to be considered one of his best movies, well, by me. Danny McBride takes the lead role, well, let me tell you something, I knew he was pretty funny, but now, I do not think he's funny at all, I think he's... hilarious, just hilarious, he made me laugh out loud, Danny is known from my fifth favorite movie, wich is Due Date, he is also known from Pineapple Express, The Foot Fist Way, Hot Rod, Tropic Thunder and some other movies. Natalie Portman was okay here, she played a very diferent role comparing to her other roles but still, she was okay and a bit funny, Natalie is known from Black Swan, V for Vendetta, No Strings Attached, The Other Woman and some other movies. James Franco was okay here, he was funny sometimes and he had a good presence on the screen, I can assume he wasn't that good, but I don't think he deserved his stupid Razzie nomination, James is known from one of fifteen favorite movies, wich is The Green Hornet, he is also known from 127 Hours, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3 and some other movies. Zooey Deschanel was just forgettable here, she just played a stupid person, that's all, Zooey is known from Surf's Up, Yes Man, 500 Days of Summer and some other movies. Sow, as you can see, this movie has a fantastic cast, besides, most of them, especially Danny, provided us out loud laughs and most of the actors had chemistry. Fantastic cast.
In a land where there's two brothers, who are both princes, one, named Fabious (James Franco), who's brave and bold and the other one, Thadeous (Danny McBride), is a useless person who's always envying the life of his brother, he just spend all of his days doing nothing useful, only smoking pot and other stupid things that doesn't leave his father proud at all. One day, Fabious gets engaged to Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel). Belladonna is kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux). Now, Fabious will have to go on a quest accompained with his useless brother, his prior Courtney (Rasmus Hardiker) and the brave woman Isabel (Natalie Portman) who also wants to destroy Leezar. Best. Quest. Ever.(What I thought about the plot) Well, by this, you're able to notice that the plot is a bit stupid and cliché'd, but actually, what saves it is its theme, the cursing at the old times and stuff, I really loved the concept, the plot was just average but still acceptable and the movie worked well. Good plot.
Soundtrack, well, the soundtrack was also good, they composed a good soundtrack and it's another of the things that show us that they care about making a good movie. The special effects were no big deal, but still acceptable. The action scenes were great, there was sword fighting, powers, this movie really had great action scenes.
Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, I'm not going to lie it disappointed me, it was weird and stupid at times and not totally entertaining, but still, I think I liked it a lot, it wasn't really worth of a 5.6 on IMDb. Do I recommend it? Yes, a lot, I mean, when you watch a modern movie with people cursing and talking about sex, you might wouldn't laugh, because it's normal to hear that, btu imagine watching princes and kings doing that, you'll laugh out loud and you'll get a very fun movie, Your Highness, fun and hilarious from the beginning to the credits, I recommend it a lot, you'll not only laugh out loud, you'll have a great time, like I did. Overall, Your Highness is a very fun movie and also very hilarious, it has a fantastic cast, a good plot, a fantastic concept, a great soundtrack and high doses of hilarious jokes and entertainment, well, I can might call it an overdose. Watch it if you haven't, I had a great time. Your Highness: 6.5/10. Good.
Good movie. Recommended movie. Grade: C.
