Review of Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) by Brad D — 05 Mar 2007
I picked up this DVD for cheap, as I remembered seeing this film in high school and liking it. It turned out to be a good purchase. This film, which fell through the cracks upon its initial release, is a delight.
Chris Columbus's script traces how Holmes and Watson first met each other, and gives insight into their relationship and Holmes' origins as the great detective of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories.
Barry Levinson's direction is solid, as is the young cast, particularly Nicholas Rowe as the young Holmes. Fun, escapist entertainment, with the usual Spielberg touch.
