Second collaboration of screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman (the first being Juno). Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a teen fiction writer who is unwilling to move on from the past and deludes herself into thinking she can win back her high school ex - who is now inconveniently married with a new born daughter - on a trip back to her small American hometown.
Possibly Theron's best ever performance. Patton Oswalt also gives a stand-out performance as one of Mavis' geeky peers she was too popular to be friends with back in high school. Their unlikely friendship at the centre of Mavis' journey.
