Review of Young Adult (2011) by Zachary H — 16 Apr 2013
I really wanted to see this and I am happy that I finally did. This is one of the best, if not the best movie from 2011. Normal audiences will pass this up as being average, but most normal people have not experienced what Mavis and Matt experienced in this movie.
This movie shows, especially in Mavis's character, what society has done to make people think that they are happy, when in reality they are miserable. I can relate to Mavis's character, who is constantly having sex, drinking and not really giving a fuck about anything else, including herself.
She has become "numbed" by society in a sense, to the point where she is not feeling anything at all. Later in the movie it is revealed that Mavis had the life that she wanted before, but got messed up because of something that was beyond her control.
At this point it shows the true sense of life never being quite the way that you had it pictured it in your mind, and that is why I love this movie.
