Review of Young Adult (2011) by Dawdlingpoet — 28 Nov 2021
This is what I'd call a cringe-watch. It doesn't feature heavy amounts of slapstick comedy but the central character is less than likeable and while its somewhat amusing to see her childish reaction to the situations she finds herself in, its not exactly laugh-out-loud territory.
There was a definite sense of car crash TV about it. I suppose the idea is to think back to those we didn't like at school, who were popular and seemed to have it all and recognise that time may not have been kind to them.
Nice thought(!). To be fair, there are some mildly amusing moments - some of the supporting cast/characters are ok and its watchable, just nothing especially good. Its surprisingly serious at times and not entirely flippant.
This is an ok film - nothing more.
