Review of Young Adam (2003) by Chris V — 27 Dec 2007
Slow-moving (rather like the barge which features prominently), but quite compulsive. Joe (McGregor) is not the most sympathetic of characters - a compulsive womaniser with less saving grace than Milan Kundera's variations on the same theme, but.
Tilda Swinton's Ella is excellent.
Lots of very graphic sex - just to prove that it wasn't invented in the 1960s - don't make the mistake of thinking it might make for comfortable Christmas day viewing with the parents-in-law.
