Review of Young Adam (2003) by Mathieu B — 09 Jan 2008
Some would say it's a sex drama, but I don't see Young Adam that way. I think it's a psychologic one. Young Adam has, indeed, a lot of sex bringing absolutely nothing to the plot, cause there is too many of them. In fact, I truly think the writer/director put these scenes to fill some holes in the story, maybe to captivate the viewer.
Good sides now. Ewan McGregor's character, Joe Taylor is absolutely fantastic. I mean, the choice he made during the film and the way he deals with the secret he is trying to hide is very interesting.
Besides some doubtful directing choices, Young Adam has some cool shots, and the most important of all - I think -, it is extremely well acted. McGregor, Swinton and Mortimer are perfect in their roles.
