Review of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) by Sheron J — 30 Oct 2010
This is a nice woody allen film with a great cast of characters. the core group; are a family of a youthful (?) past-middle-age man (hopkins) and his nerve-wracked wife (jones), the daughter (watts) and their son-in-law(brolin); all of whom have unstable ties to one another.
they mave have come to and past the best they could hope for out of life. their desires, deceptions and delusions draw pinto, punch, banderas, dodds and others into their circle. the connecting stories are full of angst, superficial goals, ideals and definitions of success.
no one in the story would think of themself as immature or selfish, as they are fully grown and mostly set in their ways. yet true happiness or some sort of content manages to constantly be just beyond their reach.
the main idea is one of midlife crisis (starting from hopkins' character) and the feeling that time is running out. the film is presented as a slice out of the pie of their collective existence which leaves a space where we consider what our personal achievements truly mean to us.
