Review of You Were Never Really Here (2017) by Manhattan N — 22 Apr 2018
It's hard to make a film like this fresh as the protagonist is a part of so many twisted types of memorable "hired killer" protagonists we've seen before, including the obvious and easy comparison "Taxi Driver.
" Ramsey puts her vision in the forefront here though and it's one hell of a ride. Phoenix doesn't just mope around. The amount of nuance in his performance is something only he could pull off.
Given its very quiet pacing, it's simulataneously lurid and shocking at every turn.
