You Were Never Really Here is short and simple but far from straightforward. It's meant to be artsy and modern but it was actually frustrating as it didn't make much sense. What the film lacks in dialogue it makes up for in suspense, gore, and drama as Joaquin Phoenix gives a praiseworthy performance.
