Review of You Only Live Twice (2007) by Chris H — 29 Dec 2008
Entertaining Connery film that both successfully and unsuccessfully trades the Ian Fleming book for fantasy. While the film's plot of SPECTRE stealing U.S. and Soviet space capsules to initiate World War III is better than the underwhelming "Garden of Death" plot of the book, Bond's "transformation"(and I use that term very lightly) into.
A Japanese fisherman is woeful in the film (and really unnecessary--the death of Aki proves that Blofeld knew of Bond's masquerade, making it completely superfluous). Still, it has some great action sequences and Connery's last great appearance as Bond. Plus, it has my favorite Bond song, the hauntingly beautiful title song written by John Barry and sung by Nancy Sinatra. B.
