Review of You Only Live Twice (1967) by Ken S — 21 Nov 2012
Not the best Connery...the plot is solid, and I like the little helicopter, as well the Donald Pleasence as Blofield (in a performance that obviously inspired Dr. Evil) so that is pretty fun and iconic.
The problem in the film occurs with the plot element of bond going undercover as a Japanese man, which looks silly and isn't fooling anyone. Connery can barely pull off being anything but Scottish, let alone Japanese.
The film is also not nearly as swift and entertaining as the previous four films. It moves kinda slow at times, and Connery doesn't look as pleased to be there...which since he left the series (temporarily) after this film is not too surprising.
Weaker entry in the series, but Pleasence is worth it, and fans of Connery as 007 will probably enjoy just having him around in the role.
