Review of You Only Live Twice (1967) by Wez C — 08 Jul 2009
I think this may be Connery's weakest performance as 007, also one of the lowest scoring films in the series in my opinion.
During production and some time after, Connery was sick to the teeth of 'James Bond', and was reportedly followed night and day. So then I feel that the hatred of playing Bond became apparent on-screen. The film itself has no deep faults. It's just the lack of any charm or 'wizz' that lets this film down.
The story involving spaceships being 'swallowed' by Blofeld's spaceship is a little hard to "swallow" (no pun intended!). The locations are gorgeous as ever, taking 007 to the far east, the characters are all well performed by the cast. Voice dubbing is terrible in this film (the following film suffers the same problem).
Overall not a bad hour and a half of action, humour and romance etc. Just the lack of any 'charm' lets it down for me.
