Review of You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) by Brendan N — 10 Feb 2013

Adam sandler surprisingly takes a left turn and does a film that is random. The result is mixed but there are a lot of funny moments that generate from the cast.

Dennis Dugan is on auto pilot yet again and allows sandler to do what ever he wants to do. The film lacks any real substance and the visual eye is lacking. Dugan does a lot with sandler and it is getting worse with each team up.

Adam sandler is quite funny as the zohan, the real problem is the support characters who have very little to add. The usual sandler team is here and they work well together. Sandler is out of the usual territory and its about time he takes a chance on a new character creation. Some of he's one liners are hilarious.

The writing lacks the duration of the film. They start with a fury of jokes and by the time the half way point is reached the film dies. The problem is they are so focused on sandler they forgot to create anything funny for the remaining cast. This is a common issue in sandler films and one that needs focus.

Funny for a night in but far from a classic and far from sandlers worst. If you are a sandler fan you'll enjoy what is on offer here.
