Review of You Can't Take It with You (1938) by Haley C — 27 Aug 2007
Very much a Capra film. With actors you've seen before. Seemed a bit prototypical for Capra though, as if he was honing his skills towards a less clunky, more focused "It's A Wonderful Life" which has overlapping themes. It's just a happy film, that works. I like Jean Arthur in this one, and Jimmy Stewart takes a back seat to her. This is cool, because Mr. Potter is actually a good guy in this one, against another less 'evil' Mr. Potter.
This one has a lot of positive messages; value of friends, keeping a cheery attitude towards life, etc. There's just an overall warm, cheery feeling to this movie. You can thank the harmonicas.
