Review of You Can't Take It with You (1938) by Amanda H — 19 Jan 2009
A lot of fun... but as I can see it was "screwball"... it wasnt as funny as I thought it would be and it isnt my favorite Jimmy Stewart movie (even if he was very likable and great in this... when isnt he great, though?). That aside, I dont mind the "preachy-ness" of Capra movies. I thought this movie brought up some wonderful moral lessons that everyone can learn from. And hey, it sure can reach today's audience with the economy. But what really spoke to me was the battle between "what you want to do" and what you and people think you "have to do." The battle was inspirational.
And... it did leave me wishing that Lionel Barrymore in this film was alive and was MY grandfather!
