Review of You Can Count on Me (2000) by Meda S — 02 Apr 2009
FranklinFilmFest (Part 2).
Better than Ghost World, let's hope it's only upwards from here lo.l.
The title of this film is justified by the first event that occurs and you can begin to guess what the plot may be about.
The film almost sticks to Aristotle's Unities except the unity of time which means that the film allows the audience to get a deep understanding of the characters. It is a wonderful opportunity for any actor to really develop a role and this responsibility was handled beautifully by the entire cast. I honestly couldn't fault any of their performances.
The film is bittersweet because despite the warm and loving relationships that exist, they are at the mercy of outside forces which ultimately impact the outcome.
A wonderfully writen and acted film. Great Stuff.
