Review of You Can Count on Me (2000) by Dan B — 17 Mar 2010
Perfectly pitched dysfunctional family drama. Itâ??s not unfamiliar territory, but the superb performances by an excellent cast make it a rare treat. Linney and Ruffalo are both excellent, but special mention must also go to Matthew Broderick for his selfless support in a relatively minor role.
The script resists the lure of shallow resolution and instead delivers a series of sparse and believable scenes that are as heart-breakingly full of loose ends as life itself. It might be a little masterpiece.
