Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Tryce S — 15 Jan 2011
Action movie/samurai film/dark comedy/sociohistoric commentary/western.
The more you look at the movie the more interesting it gets, but viewing it simply as an action movie where some badass is walking around with a sword ruining peoples' days, is fine.
Make sure to watch it in widescreen format (I can't imagine how else you'd find it), as the way the movie is shot is pretty interesting- there's a lot of use of the entire frame, as the movie was made to be seen in theaters, and there was no concept of people being able to watch it edited for 4x3 TVs or on their iPhones or whatever.
