Review of Yoga Hosers (2016) by Glynis R — 29 Aug 2016
I got to see this in July presented live by Kavin Smith. I didn't know what to expect from the movie, but I figured at very least I would enjoy the Q&A. While I very much did, I also loved the movie itself.
This movie is an homage to 80s creature films such as Gremlins, Critters, The Gate, etc. Smith did a great job on that end, but also did very well updating the concept with modern teens.
It's hard to really explain the movie without giving too much away. There's a satanic killer, sort of. There's one foot tall bratwurst nazis, and there's Harley Quinn Smith and Lily Rose Depp being cynical teens, and doing it perfectly.
The supporting cast is also a lot of fun. Johnny Depp especially clearly has fun in this role.
Is this a great movie? Probably not. But it's a very fun movie with teenage girls as the heroes. That's not something you see everyday, but something I hope we see more often.
I'm really hoping this movie gets a wide release so the target audience can actually have the chance to see it, and I an see it one more time on the big screen.
