Review of Yoga Hosers (2016) by Robert S — 16 Dec 2016
Kevin Smith has his ups and downs when it comes to films. And while Yoga Hosers is not near one of his best, it isn't one of his worst.
His "True North" trilogy is him saying to everyone, "why can't I make what I want?" He has found a way to make money with the films he wants to make all while having fun and keeping things cheap. (Important to keep that in mind with this film as well as his next installment "Moose jaws").
But this movie is a good time, you can tell Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp are having a blast just screwing around finding their acting chops. With that, both are young, beautiful and talented so expect to see them branch out and do much more in years to come.
The story is a bit off the wall, Kevin Smith gets back in front of the camera not as his Silent-Bob persona but as 6 inch tall brautwursts called brautzis (a pun on Nazis) It's comedic value begins to run out shortly before the final act and is dragged down by who I was hoping to be the standout of the film, actor Ralph Garman).
Don't go into this expecting it to be as haunting and demented as Tusk, or as vulgar as his Askew universe films. Just go into it with an open mind and expect to be entertained by two strong female leads who have a bright future in film.
