Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Paolo K — 16 Feb 2010
I actually felt like I lived in Taipei for a year with this family after coming out of the theatre. A domestic epic if ever there was one. Incredibly well-performed roles by all of the leads, particularty the scenes between the Japanese guy, Ota and the father, NJ (no, not because they speak English).
If this was the last film I ever made before I died (as it is the case with Yi Yi's director, Edward Yang) I think I would be pretty happy up there with what I had left behind. I'm sure this is a film I will watch 10 years down the road and will have a completely different experience out of.
