Review of Yes Man (2008) by Marischa B — 06 Mar 2011
Yes Man is an entertaining romantic comedy. It's not a disaster by any means, but it is forgettable. But what's memorable is the scene where Jim Carrey convinces a man not to suicide by singing his rendition of 'Jumper' by Third Eye Blind. If you liked 'Liar Liar' and other similar Carrey comedies, you might wanna check this one out. Starts out wobbly but ends up quite nicely, primarily because Carrey has a wonderful acting partner in Zooey Deschanel. If the slightly generic Yes Man is symbolic of the new, happier Jim Carrey, then it is a small price to pay for his piece of mind. It doesn't stand as one of Carrey's best works but will surely give some very nice laughs. Yes Man is an amiable and entertaining feel-good romantic comedy.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theater or buy an ex rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own.
