The first movie in the "In The Line of Duty" film series!

The story's not good and the directing is quite adequate (by first-time director the one and only Cory Yuen!). It's deep in the heart of 80's style super under-cranking and even the dialogue is break-neck paced, but the characters, shallow as they are, make up for it. The virtual who's who of 80's Hong Kong movies (except for Jackie) keep the energy topped out. It's a super quick cheap flick that so happens to have a lot of importance -- it made Cynthia Rothrock an on-screen legend as the first and only white action starlet ever. (Her image would be the inspiration for Sonya Blade the Mortal Kombat character.) And let's not forget it's Michelle Yeoh's debut too and she is mesmerizing.

And even though the movie grows tiresome half way through because they run out of reasons to keep the movie from ending....the stunt-action at the end saved it from being a failure -- even though I've seen 100 of the best kung fu movies ever made, there's still stuff here to make me go "Sheeziz Christ, that was good." a couple times.

It's a middle of the road movie in quality but it deserves an extra .5 star for its place in history.
