I think the makers might have been having a little fun with Lucy in the Sky while making this film. Yet there is no denying how much fun these absurd sequences are to watch or how toe tapping the music can be (which is the a big reason this borderline experimental film became a hit).

Unfortunately what little plot there is acts as pretty much an excuse to create an extended Beatles animated music video.
