A movie for those of us who might be considered a little obsessive about our love for our pets. As a former animal shelter worker and current owner of five cats, I connected with Molly Shannon's character immediately.

The first 15 minutes with her dog Pencil (cutest beagle and cutest name for a dog ever) had me in tears right off the bat. Mike White created a wonderful character in Shannon's Peggy. Yes, she does become the crazy dog lady, but it's never a caricature, and Shannon has always been a mix of sweetness and instability that works perfectly in this role.

It's a charming, funny film, but with a few sidetracks down some darker paths of the human psyche as well. If you get (not necessarily agree with) the ideas behind veganism and animal rights activism, or you have stock in paper towels because you're a pet owner that understands that accidents happen, I think you'll enjoy this one.

Otherwise, this one might seem a bit too far-fetched, even though it's not. Now to clean the litterboxes. . .
