Review of Yank Tanks (2002) by Bruno L — 01 Mar 2011
Chris Delbert recommended this to me a while ago, but I only got around to watching it now because I just installed the new speakers for the laptop. That's because the film has some very nice Cuban music, including a rap version of "Chan Chan" from Buena Vista Social Club at the end.
This is a fun little film, probably moreso if you're into old cars. I'm not personally, but I enjoyed meeting the old characters who keep these 50+ year old cars on the road. It was also fun hearing a group of them talking about the system of "Cubanismo," in which supposedly illegal private businesses like theirs are actually what keep the whole Cuban system running day to day. 3 stars, or 3.5 if you're either Cuban or into old cars. 4 stars if you're both.
