Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Johnny A — 16 Aug 2009
This movie introduced me to Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. The two seemed natural as best friends who were polar opposites of each other. The things they had most in common were girls, drugs, and a mutual love for mischief. Certainly things most guys can relate to.
I can't lie. The sex and sexual tensions were a treat to my pervertness, but after watching the movie a few times, it becomes easier to see the meaning of such acts. The last bit at the end was certainly a shocker and it made me laugh. You knew that Diego and Gael would eventually drift apart considering their different lives and outlooks on life, but like in life, it usually only takes the most minute thing to severe that seemingly strong bond so cleanly and true. What may be a lifetime of love could be easily tossed aside and forgotten. Something I relate to far too readily.
