Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Edgar F — 15 Feb 2010
This deceivingly simple road movie is also one of the most erotic film experiences I've ever had. Like Luisa says regarding the "ocean," all the actors give themselves completely to their roles.
Cuaron's writing and direction are self-assured, raw, frank, complete with long takes creating a realistic open world. The reveal during the conclusive moments adds a much greater depth to the film; while the subtle class depictions throughout, help elevate this simple tale into a socially conscious and quite profound story about transition.
It's no surprise that Cuaron would go on to other accomplished works like Children of Men, but Y Tu Mama Tambien remains his most personal, sexy and bold love poem to Mexico.
