Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Andrew S — 25 Feb 2013
I love the realism, seemingly simple story this movie tells. I say "seemingly" because I feel this film in fact peels the layers of preconceived notions of what's important in life. To coin a phrase, there's more to this movie than meets the eye.
And with flesh and skin galore, there is indeed a lot that meets the eye. However, none of the explicit scenes are gratuitous - they all fit into the narrative and what this film is about and what it says.
The three main leads (Maribel verdu (Luisa), Gael Garcia Bernal (Julio) and Diego Luna (Tenoch)) are all brilliant. Through Luisa's character, you get a perspective of what really matters as we go through life.
