Review of Y Tu Mamá También (2001) by Jorge B — 10 Nov 2013
DISCLAIMER Before I begin this review let it be known I was unaware of the English translation of the Mexican title.
Well I looked at the filmography of the Mexican director of the new release Gravity and stumbled upon this.
Lovefilm. Bingo.
The film is a Mexican 2001 film about the exploits of 2 sex mad pre university teenagers.
Their Mexican girlfriends go off on a tour of Europe so they use their time 'alone' to befreind an older woman (who I thought resembled Sandra Bullock) and take her on a slow road trip to a beach.
The film descends into several sexual scenes and explores the emotions of jealousy, discovery, and other set pieces to graphic to explain to a Flixster audience.
The film has elements of the British sexual comedy Rita, Sue and Bob Too. The film is not a comedy however and the ending is sad.
I understand that Mexican cinema is quite graphic but in no way pornographic. I will certainly have zero Gravity thoughts when I see Gravity. You wont find a thought provoking film like this at your local Odeon. Very arthouse intellectual this.
As an aside just shows how poor Mexico is and why we MUST proceed with HS2 in the UK!
