Review of XXY (2007) by Sebastian K — 13 May 2008
I saw this without any prior knowledge and so was ill-prepared for what was about to follow. This moving story about the confusion between sex and gender in a teenage hermaphrodite was punctuated with scenes of nudity, sex and violence that made me feel quite uncomfortable, even through my worldly eyes.
It also stirred memories of the excellent Pulitzer-prize-winning Jeffrey Euginides book 'Middlesex' and I plan to revisit it shortly.
