Review of XXY (2007) by Joshua T — 18 Nov 2008
The chemistry between the Ms Efron and Mr Darin, as well as between the other boy, made this movie special. A nice tone was used in exploring how (s)he and her(?) family thought about and handled the issues raised by her sexuality: the focus was on universal questions regarding maturity/sexuality/parenting, rather than on the particulars of her situation.
One gripe: I did not find the character of the surgeon or his wife to have been satisfactorily explored or realistic.
