Review of XXY (2007) by Alita M — 30 Jan 2009
The film covers a very interesting topic, I believe one that has not been explored before in cinema. The sensitive nature of the subject, as a girl struggling with her identity and her bodies innate proclivity to being male, is handled very well in the hands of the director.
It is interesting how the scene setting, shades and lighting appear to always have a blue undertone, indicating cold and confusion of Alex and her family amidst the tropical location and vibrancy of life that is typical to Uruguay.
A must-see for anyone that is a fan of underground films.
