Review of XXY (2007) by Blair K — 22 Dec 2009
This movie will definitely not be for everyone but it takes a subject matter that I seriously think would never be covered in american cinema. one of the better foreign films I have seen in awhile and covers the sensitive topic was maturity and lets the audience decide for themselves.
the girl that is the main character is simply trying to lead her life and luckily has support( or as much as they can give) from her family. the film truely shows that what she is dealing with affects everyone around her.
the young main leads give wonderful understated moving performances. try to handle the subject matter and watch it and you will come away being a better movie. I have always been open minded so I was not going to shy way from it anyway but I thought I would still tell other people that.
you feel for her and her family from the very beginning. I wish more movies would be willing to deal with sensitive topics in the u.s. but until then at least foreign films are not afraid to.
