Review of xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017) by Jon C — 21 Jan 2017
Director D.J. Caruso brings his own vision of the 3rd installment in the 'xXx' franchise.
It's been 15 years since the first movie starring Vin Diesel and its a relief to see him back in the role.
A lot has changed in terms of social media, homeland security, extreme sports etc.
Xander Cage has retired from working at the NSA but when it appears that Gibbons has been killed he's called back in to save the world.
A digital device called Pandora's Box has the power to bring down satellites and cause massive power loss.
Marke then takes Gibbons' place recruiting team members that only Cage can truly trust.
The movie has insane action set pieces, fun supporting characters, and a plot that seems pretty standard but still cool.
The plot in all honesty isn't the big focus, it's really seeing Xander Cage get into all kinds of crazy antics.
Vin Diesel, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, and Deepika Padukone are the ultimate X team, it's a terrific cast of diverse players.
There's even a fun cameo near the end.
Some may find this an empty, loud experience but for everyone else that's missed Vin since the first movie he still brings his A-game.
Plus it goes globally from exotic location to exotic location.
