Review of XOXO (2016) by Keanex — 28 Aug 2016
Never heard of this movie until last night drunkenly browsing Netflix. The description caught my interest. Within 20 minutes I'd regretted putting the movie on. It's filmed, scripted, and acted as if Disney wanted to make a movie about an EDM rave and make it borderline r-rated. Hell I was half waiting for a Zac Effron High School Musical dance moment.
Cliches and tropes all around, along with completely **** scenarios. Ethan, the male lead, has an EDM song get 1,000,000 views over night and wakes up to find out he's now playing at a huge rave that happens to be going on that night?
Tariq, Ethans manager, has a random girl come up and make out with him with a tab of acid on her tongue and he's tripping at all? Let alone intensely after 20 minutes?
Krystal, the female lead, meets Ethan briefly and instantly falls in love with the dude during the grand finale where they kiss in front of thousands of people? Okay.
There's one scene in the entire movie that was pretty cool, Flume's remix of You & Me is playing and there's some pretty surrealistic moments that happens to one of the characters.
Outside of that, this movie is cheesy. As I said, it's like Disney tried to make an EDM rave movie. Pass.
