Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Cork B — 21 Sep 2018
I always enjoy X-Men movies. Not as much as MCU, but usually fun to watch. It is always interesting how they shoehorn these movies against each other, since they are constantly jumping back and forth with these movies.
Pros:
- Good to see Cyclops do something for once. Not a lot, but not the complete liability the Marsden Cyclops was.
- interesting take on Storm - although I couldnt figure her back story - was she Carribean? Egyptian? How did she lose the ridiculous accent?
- getting the band back together!
- Hugh Jackman gets to shred some more folks.
- I like the Quicksilver character, but don't ya think they could have saved some time and effort if he had just Luked Vadar? (search your feelings, Magneto! You ARE my FATHER!).
Cons:
- the baddie wasn't that menacing, nor were the 4 horsemen (MAYBE magneto).
- I couldnt figure out what the Xavier love interest was for. I did not recall her AT ALL from First Class, and she seemed to add nothing.
- Things kinda devolved into a DCU blow up fest at the end.
- Magneto - I get it - the conflict. But GEEZ cut bait or else go fishing already. He should have picked a side like 8 movies ago. And geez, how many times have they let him go? He is like a Gollum ex-machina - it is ridiculous!
The thing I could never figure out with X-Men movies - all of them - is this: all of these mutants are super powerful, and can kill in a blink of an eye. If you put a bunch of mutants in a room, I would imagine in real life, all but one or two would be dead within a minute. And yet, this is movie what? 15?
