I can think of no reason why this movie had to be three hours long. Yes, I understand it came out around the time that JFK and Dances with Wolves came out which probably had studios thinking Kevin Costner could pull off three hours.
No, he can't.
There is so much film here that it tends to make even the exciting parts dull.
