Review of Wuthering Heights (2011) by Faaiz I — 17 Aug 2012
Never have I seen a movie duller than Wuthering Heights. There just isn't any substance in it. No passion, no chemistry, no spark. There is scarcely any dialogue and whatever little there is, is bland. The scenes between the heavy 'rain' (which on closer inspection looks like a huge bucket of water falling) and random shots of nature and meadows gives it the impression of a wildlife documentary. The dialogue has to be filled up by howls of wind, banging of windows and doors, and branches against glass. The actors have these poker-faces on and Heathcliffe remains expressionless.
Kaya Scodelario remains an exception to this, it was her eccentric performance and outbursts that saved the movie from utter disaster but it was too little too late.
Wuthering Heights moves at a sluggish pace that is sure to make anyone gladly fall asleep. A huge disappointment is what this was.
