Review of Wuthering Heights (1992) by Farah Q — 28 Aug 2007
The only redeeming quality of this was ralph fiennes' performance (and juliette binoche's was good as well, though not nearly as memorable as fiennes'). overall, it came off as rushed, rigid, and as though they were trying way too hard.
"sodden with misery and lacking all grace" is about right. this just goes to show you that a successful film adaptation of a novel requires more than accuracy and great acting, it needs a gripping screenplay.
literature and film are two vastly different mediums and require different approaches, even when telling the same story.
