Review of Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007) by Fifi U — 11 Jul 2008
Better than the first for the simple reason that it does not, I repeat, it does not take itself seriously at all. Yes, it's stupid, but it's a smart film masquerading as ridiculous, bloody fun : the guts'n'gore factor is pumped up exponentially, which makes it a hundred times better than recent feel-bad sadism/torture porn flicks. The only thing missing is, aside from, ahem, a screenplay, has to be a little tension here and there, which is the only thing the original can say it had over this one.
Other than that, the kills are excellent-- quite stupid people getting offed quite gorily. There's vertical body-chopping, a sweet double-death, some cringe-worthy stuff and unexpected deaths. Gotta love it.
Why the dreaded Hills Have Eyes sequel was released theatrically instead of this, I'll never know, though.
