Review of Written on the Wind (1956) by Masorad ( — 27 May 2009
Done dire disservice if not viewed in a cinema; this is supersized Hollywood circa 1956 with enough delectable elements for scores of TV soap operas, but with production values setting it far apart. The pop-melodrama will become more artificial as time goes on, but Sirk's realisation, the production design, lighting and the DP's work provide an invigorating trip into hyperreality.
