Review of Written on the Wind (1956) by Jeff B — 09 Jun 2009
This is the first Douglas Sirk film I've seen. It's certainly got a particular mood, like a classy 50s soap opera, and that made the film pretty fun to watch. The cast is great, Rock Hudson and Lauren Bacall are perfect and I really loved Robert Stack (it's surprising he didn't win the Oscar, it seems like the kind of role the Academy would jump on).
Sure, the movie's got a lot of cliches, but I really enjoyed it, it's just so well done even when some scenes seem laughable.
