Review of Wristcutters: A Love Story (2007) by Kaetlin R — 12 Aug 2009
Love this movie..I just re-watched it, and here's 10 reasons why I liked it....1) it's an interesting view of the afterlife, and I love stories that deal with this subject...(can't wait for lovely bones) 2) editing is phenom.
..who did it? good question, I have no clue. I need to go look it up. 3) it has Tom Waits in it! and his character is awesome 4) it's a road movie essentially with a twist, and this is another genre I love.
..5) shannyn sossamon is such a cool girl, and her and patrick together are sweet. 6) crazy russian dude, and gogol bordello soundtrack ...side note...I think that in the book, I have to re-read it though, they can only listen to one tape the whole way, because there is a black hole at the bottom of the passenger side that all the other music fell through, and the movie is able to use just a few songs in an interesting way.
..7) isn't that enough? 8) oh yea! will arnett is in it too! 9) did I mention the editing? It's great, especially when you watch the dvd deleted scenes, and see how they put it together in the film 10) wow this was a stretch, I should have said, here are the 7 reasons I liked it.
..but that just didn't seem right. well, there is a good message in the story. Essentially, it's about a boy who "off's" himself (as they call it in the movie) and finds himself in a place that's just like where he was, but worse, he's so depressed he wants to kill himself again, but doesn't want to go to a worse place.
..it's a love story, about killing yourself for the one you love, and then finding out if you have a second chance, but to me it's about life, and how to appreciate what you have. A hard thing to do sometimes.
