Review of WR: Mysteries of the Organism (1971) by Eric F — 12 Aug 2009
This is a very strange film, which is expected given its Dusan Makavejev. It does some very interesting things, as almost a half documentary, half social commentary type of work. Makavejev touches on stalinism, Reich's theories of Orgone energy, individuality, politics and sexuality.
Its almost just a collage of things. Makavejev uses the most conentional section of the film as a metaphor for the russian-yugoslavic relationship at the time, with some great editing and symbolism. Just very interesting stuff indeed.
Whoever said that cinema must have emotion and cant be philosophical is an idiot.
