Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Brad P — 04 Jan 2011
A pitch-black comedy that also manages to be surprisingly touching, this little-known gem is as entertaining as it is original. Robin Williams turns in one of his most memorable performances as an aspiring writer who pens a suicide note for his intensely unlikable son, who dies accidentally by auto-erotic asphyxiation.
Williams' character then struggles with what to do next when the note becomes an unexpected hit. Though some casual viewers will be understandably put off by the subject matter, this film features a script with fresh, bold ideas, believable characters, brisk pacing, and competent direction.
If you have a taste for dark humor, this is definitely worth a look.
